副詞が前置詞を修飾する場合

副詞は「動詞」「形容詞」「副詞」を修飾すると覚えた記憶があります。しかし、実は、副詞は「名詞」以外は修飾することができます。

After months, perhaps years of planning, she had succeeded in being at this place at this time, and having achieved her goal, she had – much like, so we are told, a woman who has just given birth – consigned to oblivion all memories of the pain she had endured along the way. (Kazuo Ishiguro: When We Were Orphans)

「much like …」の「like」は前置詞で「much like …」は「・・・によく似ている」の意になります。

「副詞」は原則として置く場所は自由ですが、「前置詞」を修飾する場合には修飾する前置詞の直前に置く必要があります。
